Our music is rooted in the great Anglican choral tradition, and the St. Mary's Cathedral Choir repertoire includes music from Tudor England through 21st-century America.
Nevertheless, music at St. Mary's is eclectic, and we joyfully sing hymns and anthems from other traditions, including the vast repertoire of African-American spirituals , a touch of Southern Gospel , and occasionally music from around the world.
The Cathedral Choir is a mixed-voice ensemble comprised of 18 volunteers and paid section leaders. The choir's primary role is to lead the cathedral congregation in corporate song, and the choir thus leads worship every Sunday of the year, in addition to other holy and feast days.
The Cathedral Choir leads the annual diocesan Feast of Lights service to celebrate the season of Epiphany and sings Choral Evensong on the following feast days: St. Mary the Virgin, Constance and Her Companions (The Martyrs of Memphis), All Saints Day, and Ascension Day.
