Music Staff

Scott Elsholz currently serves as Canon Organist/Choirmaster at St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral in Memphis, where he leads the cathedral music program and serves as artistic director for the newly-reinvigorated Music at St Mary’s concert series.

Central to Scott’s ministry is his work with clergy, musicians, and laity from smaller parishes throughout the Diocese of West Tennessee.  As the son of a Lutheran pastor who served largely rural parishes, Scott has a keen interest in developing the musical and liturgical awareness in parishes that may not necessarily have the resources to hire professional musicians and liturgists.  He has a passion for empowering the people’s song and helping individuals and parishes discover their own unique song.

Concurrently, Scott is a candidate for the Doctor of Music degree in Organ Performance/Literature at Indiana University, where he has studied with Drs. Larry Smith and Marilyn Keiser.  He has also served the Jacobs School of Music as an Associate Instructor, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Church Music, Piano, and Music Theory.

Tyrus R. Legge, Jr, CAGO,  joined the Music Staff in July of 2001 to become the assistant organist/choirmaster. He previously served Lutheran parishes in the Memphis area. In 2003 Ty underwent the examinations for the Colleague of the American Guild of Organists and was awarded the CAGO title. He maintains membership in the Memphis Chapter of the AGO, having served as dean, sub-dean, & treasurer, and is presently serving on the Centennial Committee and also on the executive board as Examination Chair.

Ty retired as a Mathematics Educator with Memphis City Schools after a 32 year tenure. He began working as the Director of Communications in the Cathedral Offices in August of 2006 where he develops the service leaflets, announcement sheets, The Chimes newsletter, posters, service rosters-in other words, he runs a mini FedEx Office up on the third floor of the Diocesan House.
