St. Mary’s Cathedral has a long history of musical excellence dating all the way back to the mid 1800s. Visitors to the Cathedral will immediately notice that the Nave, in addition to its awe-inspiring visual beauty, is one of the finest acoustic spaces for both choral and congregational singing in the greater Memphis area. In addition, St. Mary’s is blessed with a magnificent pipe organ originally built by the Kilgen Organ Company in the 1920s and significantly expanded, modified, and restored by various builders over the ensuing century. Donations to the St. Mary’s Organ Fund are gratefully accepted to help us to defray the costs of organ maintenance. .

Cathedral Choir
The cathedral choir meets every Sunday at 9:30 in the choir room to learn and rehearse our music for the 10:30 service that day. No audition is necessary. Music reading is a plus but is not required. We will provide you with a folder, a robe, and will teach you everything you need to know for that given Sunday.
Schola Cantorum
The schola cantorum consists of professional section leaders plus other singers from the community who wish to offer motets, anthems, Anglican Chant, and other musical gems from the cathedral music tradition. Music reading is required and there is a vocal audition. The schola also rehearses outside of Sunday morning, usually biweekly on Wednesday evenings. Schola members also have the opportunity to present sacred arias within the context of worship. Please contact Richard Townley if you are interested in auditioning for this elite ensemble.
