Ministries

St. Mary's offers a wide spectrum of ministries including liturgy, outreach, small groups and pastoral care.

Find out how you can be a part.

WORSHIP AND LITURGICAL MINISTRIES

ACOLYTES/EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS/EUCHARISTIC VISITORS

Youth and adults may train to serve as acolytes: to carry the cross or torches, light candles, and assist the priest or deacon in setting up the altar.

Eucharistic Ministers assist at the altar and Eucharistic Visitors take the elements from communion to those parishioners who are homebound or hospitalized.

Training is required. Contact Susan Nelson, Verger.

ALTAR GUILD - St. Faith Chapter

The Altar Guild members maintain the altar furnishings and vestments and prepare the altar for all services.

FLOWER GUILD

Altar flowers may be donated in honor or in memory of loved ones. There is also the opportunity to donate candles, wine and bread for Communion and to other special events such as Christmas flowers.

GREETERS-WELCOME COMMITTEE

USHERS

Ushers serve on teams and are present at services to welcome, hand out bulletins, direct, collect the offering, and assist during communion.

LECTORS/READERS

Readers are assigned to read lessons and prayers during worship services. Share your clear, strong voice and your love of scripture. Ushers are also needed for funeral services and concerts...any time the Cathedral is open to welcome guests from the community.

CHOIR AND MUSIC

The Cathedral has a long tradition of musical excellence, and our worship and music reflect this while being flexible to remain vibrant and living. Our music is rooted in the great Anglican choral tradition while we sing joyfully from other traditions. The Choir is comprised of volunteers and paid section leaders.

At the beginning of each 11:00 am Sunday service, children ages 3-9 gather at the back of the nave to process in behind the choir then on to Sisters' Chapel for Bible stories and their own Prayers of the Kids. Volunteers are needed on a rotating basis to lead this group.

SMALL GROUPS

GLORY BE GALS

A social group of ladies—moms young and mature-ish, working and single-parenting, ever glorious and imperfect—from St. Mary's who gather six or more times a year for thoughtful discussion, spiritual reflection and gracious conversation based on respect, courtesy, support and laughter—all while feasting upon good food, spirits and the bountiful blessing we all share in Christ.

HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE

Teams of volunteers coordinate goodies for the weekly Hospitality Hour after the 11:00 am Sunday service and for other events. Refreshments do not have to be homemade. Volunteers are always needed to share in this ministry.

EPISCOPAL CHURCH WOMEN (ECW)

Every woman who is a member of the parish is a member of ECW. This group offers opportunities for spiritual enrichment for women of the parish, the community and the diocese. ECW directs its resources to alleviate need locally and around the world.

DAUGHTERS OF THE KING

A "daughter" makes a lifelong commitment to grow in her spiritual life by participating in some way in prayer, service, and evangelism. The Cathedral chapter meets regularly to support each other in Christ's love.

DINNER GROUPS

In the Fall and Spring there is the opportunity to sign up for a small group that meets in homes or at a restaurant for fellowship. Monthly gatherings in the Fall and Spring allow participants the opportunity to have fellowship and share a meal with both longtime and new parishioners in a casual setting.

SERVANT MINISTRY TEAM

This dedicated group coordinates outreach efforts and distributes grants. By sharing resources, they build community for people in the St. Mary's neighborhood with emphasis on education and unsheltered people. Ministry Opportunities include: Back to School Backpack Drive for Downtown Elementary, Angel Tree for Downtown Elementary, Pop Top, and the Hospitality HUB. One way to assist is to sign up for Kroger Community Rewards with your Kroger Plus card, naming St. Mary's as the organization to receive the benefit. Participating in this way does not reduce the benefits you receive from your Kroger card and all the proceeds go to Servant Ministry.
